A Streetcar Named Desire, Scene 1. The contrast between the language from working class Stanley and more refined upper class Blanche is evident as soon as they meet. Though initially friendly, Stanley uses a rougher tongue, while Blanche speaks a more proper and educated English. This is foreshadowing of future tension between them resulting from class conflict.
