We as governors, whether we’re Republican or Democrat, we really believe that we know what’s best for our people. And in Arizona, and particularly we’re very interested about natural resources. – Jan Brewer
Well, I think it’s real important that people understand, first and foremost, those of us that have lived in Arizona or in southern California, we have a very diverse population. The Hispanic population has been part of all of our lives since we’ve been born here or since we’ve grown up here. – Jan Brewer
Racial discrimination is illegal. It’s illegal in the United States. It’s illegal in Arizona. It has been and it will continue to be. – Jan Brewer
You know, when President Reagan, who was one of my idols, granted amnesty to about three million illegal immigrants it was based on the fact that the borders would be secured. That didn’t happen. It didn’t happen during the Bush administration. – Jan Brewer
I think that I’m the same Jan Brewer I was when I first ran for office way back in 1982, which is a few years ago. I always tried to do what I believed is right and I’ve always voted the way that I believe was the right way for my constituency, and that’s what I’m doing when I govern. So, I’m the same Jan Brewer. – Jan Brewer
I believe it could very well be unconstitutional to ban people. We are a country of immigrants, but we have to know who’s coming in. They need to come in legally. And we need to be sure that we have been able to have them satisfy the criteria that we set for them to come into our country. – Jan Brewer
Texas has done a very good job of securing their borders with the help of the federal government. California has done a good job. – Jan Brewer
We have over 500,000 illegal immigrants living in Arizona. And we simply cannot sustain it. It costs us a tremendous amount of money of course in health care, in education, and then, on top of it all, in incarceration. And the federal government doesn’t reimburse us on any of these things. – Jan Brewer
And under the existing circumstances, I understand there are situations where people indeed need care and need services, but I believe in America that the majority of those people are getting those services under situations and circumstances that are afforded to them by their health care providers and their state government. – Jan Brewer
I believe that Senate Bill 1070 lit America on fire. I think we’ve all realized exactly what the situation is. And the people of Arizona have lived with these porous borders and illegal immigration into our state and that people throughout America realize that. Everybody understands the problem except the president of the United States. – Jan Brewer
I do believe that people hire immigrants, legal and illegal immigrants, to do certain jobs that maybe possibly could go to American citizens, and that’s unfortunate. If they’re here legally, I think it’s OK. If they’re here illegally, then they ought not be taking jobs from American citizens. – Jan Brewer
If the federal government won’t secure the border, the State of Arizona will step in to complement federal efforts in a constitutional manner and protect the security of its citizens. – Jan Brewer
And you know, it’s not just illegal immigration. Terrorists can come across. They’re devastating our ranchers down in southern Arizona – drop houses, kidnapping, automobile accidents, extortion, drugs, the spill-over with the drug cartels. We’re facing all of it. – Jan Brewer
Sometimes I haven’t understood why he has done things and why things happened, but I know that God has a plan. – Jan Brewer
The fact of the matter is, is that we need our borders secured. Certainly, we realize that there’s going to have to be some kind of immigration reform, but I don’t believe any of that’s going to move forward until our border is secured. – Jan Brewer
We cannot afford all this illegal immigration and everything that comes with it, everything from the crime and to the drugs and the kidnappings and the extortion and the beheadings and the fact that people can’t feel safe in their community. It’s wrong! It’s wrong! – Jan Brewer
And you know, I said yesterday, you know, you know, if they’re not going to – if the feds aren’t going to do their job, well, then, I’m up to suing the feds to make them do their job! I mean, they sued Arizona, you know, we can sue them back! I mean, they’re not – they’re not enforcing the laws! – Jan Brewer
I think most of us in America want our security. There’re so many people out there that are fearful and now with this realization of immigration, with the terrorists, we need to have better checks and balances in regards to who’s emigrating into our country. – Jan Brewer
It wouldn’t matter whether you were Latino or Hispanic or Norwegian. If you didn’t have proof of citizenship and if the police officer had reasonable suspicion, he would ask and verify your citizenship. I mean, that’s the way that it is. That’s what the federal law says. And that’s what the law in Arizona says. – Jan Brewer
Arizona is now recognized as a premier place in which to locate, expand and grow a business. – Jan Brewer
You know, I think there was a point in time when people didn’t really understand how birth certificates were kept in the state of Hawaii, and now, I think that it’s been pretty much disclosed that they used to have a long form and now they don’t have a long form. Arizona used to have a long form, we now have a short form. – Jan Brewer
I don’t believe any person looking for work is fearful of political judgment. Government is a large institution, and if they believe that people are going to get rid of good employees for political reasons, that’s absurd. – Jan Brewer
Fifty thousand people in Mexico have been murdered. Puerto Penasco, 60 miles south of our border, just had five people and a police officer killed. That is like part of Arizona, and it is spilling over into our state. – Jan Brewer
