Some people would rather have a lie that makes them smile than a truth that makes them cry. I’m the opposite; I’d rather have people make me cry with the truth than try to make me smile. – Joyce Giraud
My husband and I are in preproduction of three movies, a Latin show, and a children’s animation. I’m doing a very unique nail polish line, and finally, I’m developing a hair care line because people always ask me about my hair care system. I do a mask once a week that my grandma taught me how to make, so I want to share it with everyone. – Joyce Giraud
In Puerto Rico, we have a lot of traditions. We eat a very typical thing that’s called ‘pasteles’ – it’s almost like a tamale made of bananas, and we make it all together. Like, all the women of the family unite, and it’s a very big deal, a very big thing. – Joyce Giraud
Thanksgiving is one of my favorite days of the year because it reminds us to give thanks and to count our blessings. Suddenly, so many things become so little when we realize how blessed and lucky we are. – Joyce Giraud
‘Housewives’ are a million times cattier than pageant girls! I know pageant girls have a reputation for being catty, but ‘Housewives’ are even cattier. But I do think that it’s a total different world, and it can’t compare. – Joyce Giraud
I wasn’t the typical pageant girl – I was a little more nerdy, and they gave me a voice. I created the Queen of the Universe pageant, which is charity-based, to benefit UNESCO. For me, the most important thing is that contestants have a charity-based platform or charity ambition. – Joyce Giraud
Oh, I am such a little piggy. Everyone is always mad at me because I eat so much. They’re like, ‘How are you so skinny?’ I eat more than my husband! – Joyce Giraud
My one main secret I did right after my pageants days, is I only wash my hair once a week. I tell everyone, ‘You have to stop washing your hair so much!’ – Joyce Giraud
I wash my hair once a week. You can do that. I swear. My sister-in-law and all of my friends were like, ‘I can’t do that. It sounds gross.’ Once you train your hair, it will do whatever you want it to do. And on day seven when it’s too oily, you just put it in a ponytail. – Joyce Giraud
My husband and I always have fun together in everything we do. Some people call me crazy, but the reality is that I enjoy spending each second with him. He is not just my husband – he is my rock and my very best friend! – Joyce Giraud
I never thought anything was strange in Puerto Rico other than the big mosquitos; because I was born there, nothing was really foreign to me. I think what I saw strange coming to L.A. was that a lot of people are a little bit two-faced. In Puerto Rico, you don’t get that. – Joyce Giraud
I was very skinny and very lanky and kind of awkward. In Puerto Rico, everybody is a little more voluptuous, with these beautiful bodies, and there I was, the skinny, lanky girl. – Joyce Giraud
Pageants were a platform for me, and they helped me get to where I am today. You suddenly stop being just another girl, and people want to listen to what you have to say. – Joyce Giraud
I must be very clear in one thing… Being a pageant girl is not who I am or what defines me. – Joyce Giraud
Especially as a title-holder, you can do great things with charities, because people suddenly care about what you have to say. I wanted to make a difference, which is why I created the Queen of the Universe pageant. I want to change all of those stigmas in the beauty pageant world. – Joyce Giraud
I always believe that if you feel good and look happy, you’re always going to be beautiful. My one actual beauty trick is pretty cliche: Never, ever go to bed with your makeup on. – Joyce Giraud
Pageants were an amazing platform that gave a little girl like me from the mountains of my beautiful Puerto Rico a chance to travel, explore the world, meet amazing people, work for great charities and be a voice to empower women wherever I went. For all those things, I am grateful. – Joyce Giraud
I am an actress, a producer, a philanthropist, a wife, and above all a mommy to my beautiful babies, Leonardo and Valentino. – Joyce Giraud
I admire the Shabbat tradition, and no matter which faith you are of, there is nothing more wonderful than dedicating a certain day to spend time with your family and loved ones, absent of TV, phone, and other interruptions. – Joyce Giraud
I do an international beauty pageant called Queen of the Universe for UNESCO, and what we do is we build kindergartens around the world. – Joyce Giraud
I honestly eat chocolate all day long. I do realize how blessed I am to be able to eat what I want and not have to live in the gym. – Joyce Giraud
With me, what you see is what you get. Yes, call me naive, but I love life. I am happy, and for that, I make no apologies. I do like to see the best in people, and when someone is nice to my face, I tend to believe them. – Joyce Giraud
