There’s a divinity that shapes our ends,
Rough-hew them how we will.
– William Shakespeare
Hamlet, Act 5, Scene 2. Hamlet to Horatio, making clear that he is prepared for death. Our fate is determined for us by God, no matter what we do to change it, he believes. He makes this remark while explaining how he woke up on board a ship to England and on an impulse snuck in and stole the King’s letter from Rosencrantz and Guildenstern which ordered his execution. Hamlet also believes he has been saved from death for a greater purpose – to get revenge on Claudius and serve him with divine justice for his crimes.
