Yet Edmund was beloved.
The one the other poisoned for my sake,
And after slew herself.
– William Shakespeare
King Lear, Act 5, Scene 3. This quote shows Edmund’s warped view of love. He is dying but will die happier because a woman killed her sister and then ended her own life, all for love of him. Yet their love was never reciprocated by Edmund, Regan and Goneril were just a means to an end and a pathway to power to the scheming opportunist.
