Fit to govern? No, not to live.
– William Shakespeare
Macbeth, Act 4, Scene 3. This is Macduff’s blunt reply to Malcolm, who asks if he is fit to govern after describing himself as lustful, avaricious and without any of the kingly virtues. Macduff doesn’t realize that Malcolm has been lying about himself in order to test Macduff. So Macduff tells Malcolm that he isn’t fit to live.
