Death song sung by the Cheyenne Dog Soldiers chief before he died. He was killed and mutilated by US soldiers at the Sand Creek Massacre on November 29, 1864. A 675-man force of Colorado U.S. Volunteer Cavalry under the command of U.S. Army Colonel John Chivington attacked and destroyed a village of Cheyenne and Arapaho Indians in Colorado. They killed and mutilated at least 150 and perhaps as many as 500 Native Americans, about two-thirds of whom were women and children.
