I’ll lay fourteen of my teeth, –
And yet, to my teen be it spoken, I have but four –
She is not fourteen.
– William Shakespeare
Romeo and Juliet, Act 1, Scene 3. The Nurse, using wordplay, bets fourteen of her teeth that Juliet is not yet fourteen. She also admits that she has only four teeth. The Nurse has a sense of humor and her main role in the play is to provide comic relief.
