The Crucible, Act 3. Mary Warren admits to the court that she and the other girls lied when they accused others of witchcraft and sending out their spirits to harm them. Unfortunately the court has bought into the youngsters’ stories so much that the Puritan judges refuse to accept Mary’s recanting of her evidence.
