The Crucible, Act 1. John Proctor says this to Abigail when she talks about dancing in the woods the previous night. The stage directions describe his smile widening as he says this, and Abigail letting out a "trill of expected laughter" and "feverishly looking into his eyes." There is an element of flirtation in the pair’s encounter and in John’s jokey comment about the recklessness of his former mistress. It shows that Abby still excites and attracts him.
