The Grapes of Wrath, Chapter 18. Noah Joad abruptly announces to his brother Tom that he is parting company with the family. He asks his brother to tell Ma and says that he will survive by fishing. Noah doesn’t fit in and feels that the others don’t care for him. His American dream has now fallen apart, he is just intent on survival.
