The Grapes of Wrath, Chapter 24. Willie Eaton says this about half-Cherokee Jule Vitela who manages to pick out three troublemakers in Weedpatch camp. Jule is one of the men tasked to look over guests as they arrive for the Saturday dance. Steinbeck uses personification when he says his blood was able to smell the three.
