Quickly as fig-juice, pressed into bubbly, creamy milk,
curdles it firm for the man who churns it round,
so quickly he healed the violent rushing Ares.
– Homer
The Iliad, Book 5, lines 1045-107. God of war Ares receives treatment on Mount Olympus for his battle wound from the god of healing Apollo, on the orders of Zeus. An epic simile tells us how Apollo heals Ares as quickly as fig-juice added to milk curdles when being churned.
