The Odyssey, Book 14, lines 442-444. It is ironic for Odysseus-the-beggar to tell Eumaeus that he has a suspicious heart for not believing his tale about Odysseus. For one thing, Odysseus’ tale is concocted, he is using it to test the swineherd’s loyalty. For another, Odysseus himself has a suspicious heart.
