The Odyssey, Book 18, lines 380-383. Odysseus gives this warning to Melantho after she confronts and taunts the king, while he is disguised as a beggar in the palace. Melantho is maid to Penelope, who treats her like her own daughter, and in the end she pays for her disloyalty with her life. This passage is foreshadowing of her execution by hanging by Prince Telemachus.
