The Odyssey, Book 19, lines 106-107. Penelope tells her housekeeper Eurynome to provide the beggar with the same kind of seat that she is sitting on – one draped with fleece. As well as honoring the requirements of xenia, the anient Greek concept of hospitality, she is unknowingly honoring her husband who is sitting next to her. This is a great example of Homeric irony.
